She has studied and taught extensively in this country and abroad and has attended the Houston Quilt Festival many times, the New Zealand Symposium and other shows and events. Her work has been exhibited widely and won many prizes including the Quilters’ Guild Award for colour twice. For the past few years she has also taught a Master Class at the Festival of Quilts, held at the NEC in Birmingham, UK.
Jan is also an invited judge for the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles.
Jan teaches a variety of workshops from beginners to advanced specialising in colour and geometric designs and has a large personal collection of heritage and art quilts upon which she lectures.
Focal points of Jan’s designs and ideas are usually colour and illusion, making the pattern form the three dimensional appearance of the finished piece. Most of her quilts are designed with workshops in mind, although some have to be adapted for samples that can be worked on in a day. Students always leave with an extensive handout, including coloured photos of the quilts, and are usually well on the way to achieving a finished piece.
Jan is available for day workshops, longer courses such as summer schools,
plus lectures and study days.
Jan has been a quilter and embroiderer for many years and is an active member of both the Quilters’ and Embroiderers’ Guilds.
